Thee Best Vegan Fried Chicken Sandwich,
plus other Brooklyn eats

I am pleased that so many eateries are taking on vegan versions of fried chicken, especially fried chicken sandwiches! It’s one of my must-orders when on a menu. But for so many years I was dissatisfied. I craved it done right… not an uninspired frozen patty taken out of a package. But with the bar continually being raised on vegan food, here is my favorite one yet: Pickle Shack‘s at Industry City, a special I must return for.

It was perfection, hitting all the marks. Juicy, deep-fried seitan, delicious pickles, mayo, lettuce, tomato on a wonderful bun. Chew, texture, pops of creamy mayo and brine-y pickles…

❀️ My new favorite sandwich

After some lil’ darling 5 oz. beers at Big aLICe Brewing.

Another absolute favorite: Ovenly‘s salted chocolate chip cookie. This is the best vegan chocolate chip cookie, like ever. And when you go within the hour before closing they are two-for-one.

I am always on the hunt for good Thai dumplings. I really liked these from Coco Thai in Park Slope because they are like my favorite Thai crepe street food which I have been on the hunt for. The closest I found was in the Rockaways!

And some vegetarian duck, though I should have just ordered more dumplings.

I don’t wear gold, but I ate it all over my raw chocolate chip cookie! Lively in Park Slope is really close to my job. It has cold-pressed juices, avocado toasts and other vegan and raw treats.

I also grabbed an overpriced sammy. Because I love overpriced sammies. I chomped on it back in my classroom.

Delivery from Mr. Bun in Bay Ridge. A bit elevated from standard Chinese take-out, it is one of my new favorites.

Vegetable bun, another nostalgic love.

To busy times and the appetite they bring.
