Final Las Vegas Eats

No Butcher has been high on my list as is any all-vegan eatery that makes its own vegan meats and cheeses–not just putting condiments on Beyond or Impossible Burgers.Β  Plus, a drive thru!Β  Perfect for a gal on the road. I got the Hawaiian Rib sammy which offered me hearty logs of seitan (perhaps too thick?) with a sweet sauce and some fresh and crispy accompaniments.

Good combination of flavors, but the seitan–the base–was a bit rubbery exacerbated by the thickness. But tender seitan is the holy grail and this is often a miss for eateries.

Pancho’s Vegan Tacos has an extensive all-vegan menu of Mexican delights.

Overwhelmed with hunger and choice, I don’t think I made the best decision in ordering the Supreme Fries with jackfruit and a single taco–which I inhaled so fast I nearly choked with it big lump in my throat.

I forget–I am not a fan of jackfruit as it is so often not cooked down enough. In fact the only times I may have had right was when I made it or when my friend’s boyfriend made it. Damn that was good! This wasn’t cooked down enough. The guacamole was also not very good. You gotta have good guacamole!

Ticking off the final Vegas box, I door-busted The Modern Vegan before my flight, a spot I’ve been drooling over on Instagram for quite some time.in the country.  The Modern Vegan offers an expansive and eclectic vegan menu.  Like Vegas it’s got some gluttonous and decadent options–including poutine, French toast bacon grilled cheese, fish tacos, mac and cheese, and for dessert: a deep-fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or deep-fried banana bread. But I went for the enormous V’eggs Benny, piled high on mashed potatoes.

Though vegan options are plentiful in Las Vegas, in general, they are more appealing written on the menu then executed. At least for this long time vegan who doesn’t impress easily.
