Farm Colony of Brooklyn State Hospital
Back to Abandoned Creedmoor State Hospital

Last time I was on the Creedmoor State Hospital grounds, State Troopers had me delete all my photos. So this time I was ready to read all the signs carefully, use multiple memory cards and hopefully capture some of what I had to delete back in January. I arrived by foot after an epic bus and subway journey. This would help as it was my car that alerted Troopers to my presence.

But on a steamy Sunday I’d find the gated campus of buildings unnervingly quiet, especially when it allowed the pained noises from many meandering patients from some of the active social services facilities still about the decaying buildings to travel far and wide mysteriously. Having entered through a open pedestrian gate and then completing a maze of turns, I didn’t know how to exit swiftly if I had to. This was also unnerving. In the end I left soon after seeing just how many patients were mulling about. I was intruding, but not like I usually am in my exploration. And it wasn’t right, for one. And I most certainly could not predict the behavior of those around me; so it was decidedly unsafe.

I did shoot a good amount of pictures from the inactive buildings when I arrived on the other side of the campus, though the lush summer greenery claimed the structures for their own. I liked the effect but the overgrowth made it difficult to shoot the buildings at a variety of angles or make out any building entrances. (Though entering Creedmoor is “next level” in my mind, it seems that some are still doing so. And I did pack my mask!) So here is all the green, which has me thinking of The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill.

Can you see the awning?

And with a creepy piano melody, I headed back to the bus. I will return when the green has died… on a weekday.
