By the Beach πŸ–οΈ

In the words of the adorable Nathan W. Pyle‘s adorable aliens, I am craving star damage! With the hot, hot star heat, I also crave full immersion in water. The ocean, more specifically.

Though I tried to get to the Rockaways via NYC Ferry, biking to Sunset Park’s pier, the wait for the very popular ferry to the beach would take several hours because of high demand and… reduced capacity. So instead, a selfie and ride home to catch the subway to Coney Island. Despite my late start I was determined to get in the water.

Always the rebel…

Getting on at the end of an old train reminds me of being in Manhattan with my father when I was a kid. He guided me to the window so I can watch the train snaking through the station.

First stop once at Coney… which has a dearth of vegan options so it’s all the more special, Coney’s Cones. They have fruit sorbets that are dairy-free and very refreshing and delicious.

I got a scoop of mango and a scoop of strawberry.

So delicious. I think I like sorbet better than ice cream! Unless the ice creams has a bunch of toppings on it…

Also in Coney Island, Carl’s Jr, a west coast fast food chain now on Surf Avenue. They serve up vegan burgers on confirmed vegan buns (the seeded ones). At the counter it’s the “Beyond Famous Star burger with no cheese, no mayo.” (The “Special sauce” is ketchup and relish.) But! On my visit, they were only accepting cash… and their web-enabled ordering did not include the Beyond Burger for some reason… so it was a fail.

It’s nice to see that this vegan burger is amongst the most popular offerings at Carl’s Jr. Though a fast food vegan burger is still a vegan fast food burger, supportive of an industry that kills billions of animals daily worldwide. I guess it’s ok in a bind (or curiosity), but I’ll not likely attempt to get it again any time soon… just thinking about pieces of meat contaminating things… though this instagram pic looks pretty uncontaminated…

Moving on to Brighton Beach as I had some business to take care of. Some orchids need my tender lovin’ care while my friend is traveling. It’s a big responsibility I am taking very seriously! πŸ˜’

Orchids are one of my Favorite Things

What a view from her bedroom! I want to see this in the morning. But alas, I live in a cave… I’m picking out my spot from above.

In my fave vintage bathing suit in the spectacular natural light… if I want good light in my apt I have to sit on one slither of my bed.

Beautiful beach day!

What do you see in these clouds?
