5 Borough Caribbean Vegan Report
Kokomo, Pan Caribbean in Williamsburg

Kokomo is a fresh new Caribbean spot in Williamsburg with an ample selection of clearly labeled vegan options. It was all abuzz when I door-busted at opening time and continued to draw a wait the entire time I dined.

After a long day of exploring in three of the five boroughs in the hot hot sun, the Sweet Ginger juice was just what I needed. Though, adorably, the server asked if I first wanted to sample it. I suppose some can’t handle the level of ginger kick. That only got me excited as I love ginger drinks to medicinal levels!

I got the Lentil Meatballs in Coconut Curry Sauce–Caviar lentils rolled with quinoa and tofu in a Trinidadian ginger coconut curry sauce.

Hearty yet delicate, they hit the spot. But I would have loved some vegetables in the delicious curry sauce. It’d make it a better value for $24. But I have to mention the coconut rice side that was so damn good. A nice cooling creamy sweetness it added to the mix.

A great meal at a hopping spot that might have had too much energy for me in my sun-drained state. I boxed up half my meal and ate the rest of it on my couch in my pajamas. I’ll be back with more energy to try some more of those vegan options!

Up next in my Caribbean report, some breakfast maybe? (Ackee!!) And at some more moderately priced eateries. Stay tuned.
