Brooklyn’s Avant Garden

Williamsburg, Brooklyn now has its own Avant Garden, Ravi Derossi’s spectacular high end eatery that worships the almighty vegetable. And luckily we had a special occasion to celebrate that merited the fanciness.  To get in the fancy zone, a cocktail.

We shared a bunch of plates, but only after some explanations and clarifications from our friendly host. Unfortunately the menu on their website is out of date and I cannot offer much than beautiful pictures of our dishes.  But that’s ok, it is the presentation of the everyday vegetables that is so exquisite. Below was our eggplant toast… but so much more than that.

This one was called Avocado.  It was a really unique cold dish similar to a tartare. Sublime in texture and with a pleasing subtle flavor and creaminess.

This was the Pineapple Tartare with pineapple, jicama, avocado, and other such fresh, cool cuts of veg. With a foam on top, all fancy like I said.

This was the Mole dish, as if we hadn’t had enough avocado. No, we haven’t. Really great dish for tons of reasons, like those pickled baby carrots.

The Cauliflower was divine, as it usually is. I could have eaten this whole head on my own.

Dessert: Chocolate cake, vanilla ice cream roll, caramel sauce, torched marshmallows, graham crumble. S’mores, yes. Perfection, hands down.

Squad goals: smart, beautiful, creative, fart jokes. xo
