Baseball Stadi-YUM Eats:
Yankee Stadium Vegan Report, 2018 Season

[New for 2019 season!ย Please see most recentย report on vegan offerings at Yankee Stadium here.]

Firstly: THANK YOU, Yankee Stadium.  This season’s dining guide clearly names confirmed vegan options in the ball park. This is helpful! ๐Ÿ˜Š

As I bring you this part 1 of the 2018 vegan report of Yankee Stadium, I’m happy to report that most of the vegan options I noted in my 2017 report are still available. Quick 2018 news:

1—Though Field Roast (the company) was purchased by a very Big Food meat company from Canada, their burgers and franks are still available.

2—Hale and Hearty has gone to make way for very Instangrammable shakes with cupcakes on top.

3—I still have not been able to try the Bao since Toyota Terrace was reserved for a private event early on and had stopped serving by the time we were back. But I think I can craft a great veggie bao with cooperation from counterperson: The buffalo cauliflower from their vegetarian bao, minus the blue cheese and slaw, plus the pickled carrots from the Bacon bao and maybe the onions and peppers from the Beef bao.  I will get back later in the season to give this annoying order a whirl.

Here are the vegan (and Star Wars) highlights of my May the 4th visit to Yankee Stadium…  First, we got the Aaron Judge Jedi bobble head and my Bronx Brewery No Resolutions beer.  This beer might be the best value in the park, especially for me who has a pretty low tolerance.  It’s got an alcohol percentage of 7.6% so it quickly erased a very stressful day of teaching special education middle schoolers, replacing it with giddiness.  The nerdiness of the themed evening game also contributed.

And there was plenty of nerdiness to go around!  Star Wars characters were out and about…

Ron Howard threw out the first pitch, surrounded by Imperial storm troopers.

A long time ago in a borough far, far away….

I’d just as soon kiss a Wookiee.

New for 2018 are a delicious vegan option: Black bean taquitos!  These deep-fried delights are cheese-free… as the cheese and chili are usually deposited in the bottom of the cup for dipping.  Vegans can ask for the taquitos with salsa (no cheese, no chili), but oddly they had no salsa!  After returning to check if they had fixed this huge stock issue, I got the taquitos without any salsa.  And they were very satisfying!  I might opt to whip up a quick vegan cheese sauce to bring in next time as that would send these over the moon.  The price ($12) is pretty high, but this is the case with everything at The Stadium.

High from our nosebleed seats…

Next, Churros! They offer the regular cinnamon and sugar sprinkled churros along with an Oreo version. I was excited at the possibility of the Oreo version to be vegan, as Oreos are, but the creme-filled churros are most likely not. One long-ish churro was over $5. Eek!

Yummy churro hit the spot.  Wish I would have caught a fresher batch. But c’mon, cinnamon sugar sprinkled on a twig would likely be delicious too.

The Asian eats I still haven’t tried. Ok, my next visit will be highlight these non-traditional Stadium options.

Ok, this is the big deal for the 2018 season. In addition to their own vegan-friendly burger (The Guadalupe), Bareburger now stocks the Beyond Sausage from plantbased big whig Beyond Meat.

Topped with a delicious and spicy medley of peppers and onion and inside a pretzel bun, it’s really satisfying. My non-vegan friend was floored by it.

With two types of veggie burgers and two types of vegan links, it’s a Yay for Yankee Stadium vegan options.

Boar’s Head (shudder) even offers a veggie sandwich that can be veganizable, though I did not partake.

Then there’s fruits and salads from Melissa’s, NY Pretzel braids (for more dipping in that vegan cheese sauce you’re going to bring in), and peanuts.

It was a great evening of vegan options at Yankee Stadium.

Me and Bruce have started an annual tradition of New York Baseball appreciation.  Though this Mets fan will never wear a Yankees shirt, I am fine with wearing one of the hundred navy shirts I have in tribute to New York’s game.
