Austin Dam Memorial Park &
Bayless Paper Mill Ruins

Austin Dam Memorial Park

In all its spectacular color, and in spite of the persistent rain, we went to see the sights at Austin Dam Memorial Park in Austin, Pennsylvania. The ruins of the dam are in it of itself cause for a stop in… but in autumn, the surrounding hills and their color are extraordinary.

A beaver was here

I kept jumping out of the car–like every 30 seconds

The Austin Dam Ruins

Once we arrived, there was more activity than expected on this rainy day. The dam ruins had several visitors and the grounds also contained a seasonal “Fright Walk.” But first we had to conquer our goal of getting to the nearby Bayless Paper Mill ruins. Check out this blog for detail on the area’s history! It’s pretty fascinating.

The Bayless Paper Mill Ruins

Here we are a bit far from the ruins… there really is no way to get to the site from the highway unless you have got waders and don’t mind getting scratched up by a bunch of thicket.

We followed a trail from the park to access the site.

The eerie tower

I was excited to reach it… but we didn’t stay long.

Halloween Fright Walk

Of course we had to partake in the Fright Walk, though muddy. ‘Tis the season!

Cheeky

Hanging baby dolls: always creepy

It was a full afternoon of basking in two kinds of ruins. BUt now it was back to the cabin!
