Finally, Coney Island’s 41st Annual Mermaid Parade is here! A sign of impending summer, the parade is the gateway to the best time of the year. This year’s mermaid vision was set quite some time ago in my sketchbook. And through the months, it came to fruition. Now that the exciting day has come and gone, let’s look at the start to fin-ish!

My crown coming along… the motif: iridescence

My colleague gifted me some shells from the apparent seashell hot spot–Cedar Grove Beach on Staten Island! I’ll have to get over there.

I used them on a headband for my friend.

Another headband for a friend

And a necklace–these were all gifts for my mermaid marching friends

My complete costume, ready to go!

On the day-of now! Some mermaid blue spirulina smoothies for the arduous task of getting ready.

✨Magical toast✨

Ready to go!

En route now… We miraculously found a great parking spot.

Now we’re at Coney Island very early and ready to take lots of pictures… we are causing quite the stir as early mermaids on the boardwalk.

Not keeping off the jetty.

The paparazzi was assembled.

Parade check-in!

Waiting for my friend I decided I needed to eat something to survive the day. We got the hummus platter from Salt & Sizzle on the boardwalk.

More poses while the light is good.

Heading back for the parade line-up!

It was really hard to take pictures with my back piece on, but there were so many amazing costumes!

Found my friend, my best mermaid! This is our 5th Mermaid Parade together.

Marcher 231, reporting!

Refreshments.

The girls are ready to go too!

Some amazing costumes

The back piece blues. My friend had to put sunscreen on my feet. True friend. LOL

Festivities!

Almost at the end

We spilled onto the beach after the march for more libations.

I’m not a cutter. The back piece, which restricted my arms, scratched ’em up.

I wanted to swim so badly. But I really love this top!

The drums came to the shore and then was followed by a terrible downpour of really fat and cold raindrops. We stuck it out.

Some of us drank too much. I was one of them.

But my 6th Mermaid Parade is in the books! Now, I bask.

Summer, I’m ready
