Vodega, All-Vegan Bodega
on Staten Island
January 10, 2021

When I first read about the opening of Vodega in the Randall Manor neighborhood of Staten Island, New York City’s first and only 24/7 all-vegan bodega, it was 11 in the evening. And I contemplated jumping on the bus to check it out in my pajamas! But I resisted, waiting until its second day of operation. What a special addition to New York City’s vegan options! And in my favorite borough to uncover vegan options…
With only one day under its belt, the vision of Vodega is clear: better options for the community–pantry staples, deli sandwiches, soft serve, prepared foods, lattes, pancakes off the griddle! And all-vegan. π€―

It was great to see a steady stream of customers as the Vodega staff got their feet wet in their new role–trailblazers in the New York City vegan world. Gorgeous flowers sat out front as a welcome to the Staten Island vegan scene.

No worries of cross-contamination here!

My BEC (That’s Bacon, Egg & Cheese (with salt and pepper, no ketchup) if you’re not hip with the bodega classics lingo.)

With several all-vegan eateries sprouting up on the borough recently, where commercial real estate is far more affordable than Brooklyn, the forecast looks good for continual vegan growth on Staten Island. I am going to do my part to support small businesses who hold the same values that I hold dear. And I hope you do too!
