Victory Theater
Holyoke, Massachusetts

I participated in a photography workshop hosted by Matt Lambros this past weekend. The price of the workshop got me access to the Victory Theater in Holyoke, Massachusetts, an Art Deco-era theater which is amidst a slow renovation by current owner the Massachusetts Int’l Festival of the Arts (MIFA). The gorgeous space long empty was still packed with lush detail and artifacts from its hey day–when it operated nickelodeons and evolved with the boom of the movie business after World War I. Silent movies and stage shows then gave way to “talking pictures.” Showing films until its closure in the 1979’s, the projector room is littered with film splices and equipment notes are scribbled on the walls. To follow are my favorite shots.
