Vegan Wonders of Brooklyn:
Bad Gyal Vegan & Baba Cool

Just look! This vegan fried chicken from Bad Gyal Vegan in Bed-Sty is mind-blowing. The breading is everything as some say. Though this visit was an locationally opportunistic one in advance of their battle in the fried chicken showdown, I just needed to share it now. I mean! Have you looked at it?!

The breading was crisp perfection.

Inside, texturized soy protein that I have often ranted about for being super-processed. And I still have this gripe. But it seemed much more appropriate under this breading than any other time I have had it.

Inside the vegan chicken was a sweet stick of sugar cane that you can suck… like the bone I never sucked inside a fried chicken piece perhaps? Yes, likely. Also in the foil of dreams, rice and beans and delicious plantains.

Also close by to my summer school job, some delicious plants on the other side of the spectrum. Baba Cool is a cool counter spot with great light, great people watching, and fresh vegetable-heavy dishes, like this avocado toast. And a coconut milk latte on the side.

And the Cool Bowl–cauliflower rice, watermelon rice, summer squash noodles, cucumber, red cabbage along with a carrot miso dressing.
