The Stars in Spain
Parc Natural del Garraf

At a certain point of my trip I realized how ideal weather conditions were for star gazing. Though I hadn’t intended to, having not brought my tripod, I decided I needed to do a night shoot. I had the time, the transport and Parc Natural del Garraf promised an escape from Barcelona’s light pollution. So I headed to the city’s electronics store chain, Fnac, for a cheap tripod. I paid only €25.00Β for a Tn’B Instant Shot lightweight tripod.

Seemed to hold up my heavy camera well.. .

A quick drive out of the metro area and I was at the entrance to the park. My goal was to head deep into (or up as the road began ascending) the park to get to the Observatori AstronΓ²mic del Parc del Garraf, which is said to be the darkest part in the surrounding area.

But the drive was taxing and a bit scary. There were steep drop-offs on the very narrow winding road. I wound up pulling into several of the park’s turn-outs to shoot, excited about seeing the milky way on my screen… along with a lot of light pollution as well. Sitting here now I wish I would have made it all the way to the observatory, but a full day in the sun left me hitting many sites left me really tired. It would be a bummer to veer of a cliff from an unknown winding road. I choose safety.

And I got a lot of great shots, though the foreground wasn’t all that interesting. It was nice to see many a couple of astrophotographers doing what I was doing in different spots.

This mass of yellow light was kinda odd. Didn’t know what it was…

I saw lots of shooting stars

I was happy I decided to shoot the stars! I was back relatively early too. I’ll make it to the observatory next time.
