Baile! Flamenco at Torres Bermejas, Madrid

A Flamenco performance was a must for me while in Spain.  An art form whose pallet is the human form, this interpretive dance found its way to Spain through from the 9th and 14th century migrations of Romani.  Steeped in the cultural influence of the Gitanos (the Andalusian gypsies of Southern Spain), the dance—along with song—convey a deep overtaking passion: duende.  To watch this was mesmerizing… to see the music deliver the dancer into a state of trance.

It consists of four parts: Cante (voice), Baile (dance), toque (guitar) and Jaleo (“hell rising” via hand clapping and encouraging shouts). But it is no use to talk about it really. It is best experienced.
