Vegan Chicken at KFC* /
Showdown Bracket Update

VegNews likes to post kooky articles on April Fools Day. And last year’s selection was about KFC launching a vegan chicken bucket.

Flash forward only a year or so and it is actually on the horizon. But really now, if I had to choose between a bucket from all-vegan Modern Love from vegan chef icon who helped thousands of vegans eat well and deliciously and KFC, the antithesis of vegan values… c’mon.

Yes, I am not excited about a fast food chain’s packaged, processed, GMO-y option. But I am excited by how much plant-based is blowing up. It’s like the 90’s all over again! When the kids who called me freak all of sudden wanted to know where I got the vintage Girls Scout uniform I was wearing to school and what the different color laces of Doc Martens represented.

And while we are on vegan fried chicken, a bit on my recently announced Vegan Fried Chicken Showdown.

Bracket changes—1) I am sorry that I overlooked Chickpea & Olive for this battle! They have two, count ’em two, vegan fried chicken sandwiches. I am facing them off against Asbury Park’s Modine. Since Modine is the lone NJ eatery, I may switch it out to keep things all NYC if another option surfaces that meets my criteria.

2.) Champs Diner is out as their vegan chicken is Morningstar Chik’n. (Oh Heeeell no!) That means Pickle Shack will be up against Bushwick’s Hartbreakers. Having went ga-ga over those respective vegan chicken sandwiches, I know that this will be an epic battle. So epic that I walked to Industry City from my job today to try to get it started. But the Shack was closed in inexplicably. Please don’t close on me again, Pickle Shack! Me love you long time.

Here is the updated bracket.
