Welcome to my series that highlights the very best vegan foods in New York City’s boroughs. While vegan options are popping up all over, this series focuses on the non-dairy cream of the crop, options that raise the bar for vegan food and deserve special recognition for their high standards.

Having written many blog posts about how great the food is at Brooklyn’s Renegades of Sunset, a new offering would again bring be back to my keyboard–attempting to capture the perfection of their food in words for the umpteenth time. It is very difficult a task! Such is the imposition of being… The Vegan Best of the Boroughs.

The Nashville Hot Chik’n Sandwich, a new special, combines all that I worship from their award-winning fried chicken sandwich, a flavorful, craggy cutlet of fried seitan mostly, with a combination of sauce and garnish that compound deliciousness to brand new levels. A bright, a creamy ranch; a tangy, herbaceous and crisp slaw and a sticky sweet sauce with a sneaky heat mingle gorgeously in each bite. I think this sandwich would win a battle against their original fried chicken sandwich. Second thought, they’d raise each other’s hands up in unity to the roar of the crowd (me). I am anthropomorphizing vegan food now. Perhaps because I love it so.

These mouthwatering pictures accurately capture The Nashville Hot Chik’n Sandwich’s allure.

That crag though…

Succulent and dirty, this sandwich loves you back.

As vegan options become ubiquitous, it’s important to support eateries that are raising the bar– honoring each ingredient and crafting food from scratch. Such respect is discernible in every bite… and every vegan bite is activism in a scrumptious form. The Renegades don’t squander that opportunity. That makes them a Vegan Best of the Boroughs.
