Twenty Mile Beach
Hawthorne, Nevada

As I drove south back to Law Vegas, I was taken aback by the beauty of Walker Lake. Despite its beauty, its salinity level is so high that it cannot support life–fish and other lake organisms. This is because of a rapid decline of water levels due to agricultural diversions–man and what man wants. Along its shore are several campsite beach areas. I stopped at Twenty Mile Beach, knowing I had the time to seize my whim.

Luckily I did not step on a land mine. Wait, why are there land mines here??? Apparently there are massive spider invasions at Walker Lake in the summer, too. But I didn’t notice any.

It was a lifeless place, but with a quiet beauty. It also was off season and there are no fish living in the lake… so no one is fishing! I am happy to see there are restoration projects in the works.

Love these reflections. They are what pulled me over.

A short beautiful stop.
