Thai Thursdays

The school year is done! What I’ll miss only slightly less than the smiling faces of my 10-year-olds is Thai Thursdays, an “almost there” me time treat within the busy weeks of teach-time. Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn is home to thee best Thai lunch specials in New York City… and there are a jillion Thai eateries to try, most whose competitive spirit gives patrons well-balanced and hearty lunch combinations. I could have visited more but I developed fast favorites whose easy locations and consistant deliciousness turned me into a repeat customer.

Most visited would likely be Em Thai Kitchen. With their lightening-fast service and dirt-cheap prices, they had me at Sawatdee Kaa. Their lunch offerings include two appetizers and can be stir-fried up with tofu or what they call “seitan tofu” (otherwise recognized as seitan). Below check out the sweet and sour seitan with veggie dumplings and tarot cake, which was, unfortunately, not vegan as it was wrapped in egg noodle. Under that, my standard: Pad See Ew sans the egg with seitan with dumplings and spring rolls.

Nine-D is an absolutely delicious Thai eatery with super lunch specials. They offer you three, that’s right, three accompaniments. I don’t get here as often as Em because it’s on Court street and I prefer to meander about Smith street more so. But the food is a special treat! Below is the Seitan Spices, a big pile of seitan with lemongrass, lime, basil and onion. And yes, three aps: spring roll, dumpling and a yummy salad with peanut dressing.

What will I do without my Thursday Thai fix? Will I have to settle for just one appetizer to accompany my lunch entree?
