Summer Staying ‘Cation

As a recent again-Brooklyn resident and a teacher obligated for 3 weeks of professional development in algebra and then another 3 days for training to be a special education class cohort, my summer has been here–in New York City.  I don’t know that that has happened since I started as a teacher.  I’ve been busy adjusting and then, technical difficulties and the death of my Macbook Air.  But I’m back, blog, to let you know I can really shake ’em down…

The Contours aside, here I am am back in Green-Wood on a record hot day.  Because it’s the best place to take a peaceful stroll that’s rich with scenery and history. And look, a young male angel still with youthful softness–a graveyard rarity.

These angels look like spies communicating to each other from ear pieces. I love an angel’s soft belly pouch, the sculpted draping garment on top of it.

Not sure about how time had aged this statue’s face.  A bit creepy, but hey! we’re in a graveyard.

One of my favorite angel positions. Green-Wood is such a special place.  One can get lost in its winding roads and paths… and then one can get locked in after closing as we did!

I am attending teacher professional development at the prestigious Stuyvesant High School in lower Manhattan. It has fantastic views, though commuting into Manhattan is a pain in the arse I haven’t had to deal with in over a decade. That’s Hudson Yards’ new skyline in the distance.  There are high rises popping up all over the place!

After some furniture moving that painted my limbs all sorts of black and blue provoking looks of concern from passers-by, a nice lunch in Bay Ridge. My Thai Cafe just might become my Thai cafe.  I need a go-to Thai place.  This place is fresh and flavorful and with excellent service… but their menu needs some veggie additions.  Ok specifically, they need veggie dumplings. I was very appreciative that when I inquired about the Vegetarian Curry Roll my server found out from the cooks that the roll wrapping is sealed with egg. :-/

Their Pad See Ew, my go-to dish, was excellent.

And, of course, mango and sticky rice for dessert.  The mango wasn’t so ripe so it wasn’t as spectacular as I know it could be.

And speaking of high rises going up all over the place.  You know that stupid building that now obstructs the gorgeous Brooklyn Bridge when looking east from the BQE?  This is it from the Manhattan Bridge crossing.  So obnoxious!

That’s all for now, New York. I guess I’ll take a shower and get back out there.
