Some Vegan Food Along the Way:
Lancaster and Bishop, California

Lancaster, California

I passed through Lancaster on my way North from Los Angeles and made a pitstop at The Whole Wheatery, a health food store with a cafe (Natcheryl’s Cafe). They are a really great spot to stock up on vegan goodies! They have a slew of prepared food and a cafe with fresh-made sandwiches.

I got these summer rolls, which were really good but not very fresh. It is clear many of the offerings are previously frozen. But I would much prefer the widespread selection and availability and have them not fresh than have no option at all.

My fresh made sandwich half was not the best value and the bacon bits was kind of off-putting. Too much fake flavor. It seemed like a local favorite, so I tried it out.

The strawberry layer cake was really good, also in the process of a thaw. It was so nostalgic tasting to me. Back to the early 2000’s when I used to hit up Red Bamboo for Vegan Treats‘ chocolate-encased strawberry shortcake! A very nice memory.

Bishop, California

Bishop had a good amount of vegan options! I would love to return to this cute stop to explore further. On my quick stop I decided on a housemade veggie burger from Mountain Rambler Brewery. It did not disappoint!

Fries and one of their brews, yes please! A hearty and soul-feeding stop.

Next, a sweet bite from Good Earth Yogurt. They’ve got a vegan coconut soft serve!

You pay by weight, so you can add all the toppings you want, though vegan toppings are limited to fruit really. No nuts, no Oreo–bummer.

But still, a very welcome treat.

Onward I go on my adventures… now that my belly is full.
