Signs in Bay Ridge

With the coming of Spring, I am drawn out of my apartment… and happy to see so many “vegan” signs everywhere. First at Little Cupcake Bakeshop, a new vegan option: the Red Velvet.

It was most certainly red! But I didn’t taste any cocoa at all unfortunately. And there was no tang to the frosting, so it didn’t taste like the Red Velvet’s signature cream cheese frosting. I’m going to stick with their dreamy carrot cake option.

It sure did look pretty though.

A few steps down, Paneantico Bakery is boasting about their vegan sandwiches and pastry. It was a handwritten sign last June. So this is an indicator of continued interest. Who are these vegans in Bay Ridge? Say “hi” vegans of Bay Ridge!

Walking to my usual Covid test spot, I spotted this food truck set up on 86th street. You see that v-bomb? Today I chatted up the food truck guy to make sure that chipotle mayo was vegan… because you never know with new options. After he affirmed, he whipped me up a special batch with a boatload of tofu. I’m sorry, I don’t remember the name of the truck. I’ll let you know when I get it again!

Here is a delicious juice that was rocking my world. I got it from Al Horno Lean Mexican Kitchen which is also called Al Vegano Vegan Mexican Grill sometimes. It had cilantro in it… yum.

Oh, here’s another v-bomb at a nail salon. Go Third Avenue!

Caught this pretty cloud hanging out on the Verrazzano Bridge and took like a million pictures of it as I walked from the ferry to my apartment.

I love the muted tones, like a wispy dry-brush painting.

Finally, I saw this bench had been memorialized and donned with bright flowers and balloons. Out of curiosity I searched the name and found a very heartbreaking story of Megan Alano who took her own life at just 16 years old. πŸ’”
