Saying Goodbye to Summer

The worst part about the last days of summer is that you are farthest away from her return. But she is not quite gone yet. There is still time to worship, to lay under her—for hours as she roasts you good and well, imparting her powerful rays onto your surface area. And doesn’t she make you look so good! On this unofficial end remember we never really say goodbye. She just starts paying more attention to another part of the world.

The conditions were perfect at the beach–lapping clean waves, soft sand, a powerful sun, and an ocean breeze… and no obligations.

Labor Day essentials–watermelon and smiles…

Fresh snacks to restore energy, like this avocado toast with bean spread and the tomato I picked from The Greek’s garden, are also a must.

Bringing the underwater camera helps for worry-free picture taking. No crashed wave looks the same, so keep snappin’.

Resting beach face… I know I used that line before but it makes me giggle.

Let them waves crash on you.

After, a stop for Clara Cakes‘ nut-based vegan ice creams, for sale at Bernadette’s Summer House in Rockaway Beach.

As you can see, they cost an arm and a leg.

So these were nothing to write home about. Perhaps some of her other flavors are more worth the money, but these were not really.

A bizarre summer will bring forth a bizarre autumn indeed. Manage your expectations. Happy Labor Day to the working class. ✊
