Plants For Sale in Brooklyn

Clinton Hill’s Guevara’s had me at its color scheme… but then there’s the delicious food–all made from plants.

After my first visit, I knew I’d be back soon for their version of the Torta Milanesa, a Mexican sandwich traditionally made with a fried cutlet of pounded pork served on soft bread and filled with guacamole, crema or mayonnaise, refried beans, pickled jalapeños, cotija cheese and lime juice. But this version…

A thin, fried eggplant, purple cabbage slaw, refried beans, guacamole, pickled peppers, tomato and a harissa mayo.

It hits all the notes–and the color, just look. It was a well deserved splurge after a very rough week. Sooo, I got some other goodies to feast upon when I got home and I officially added them to my croissant battle brackets (forthcoming).

The Dulce de Leche donut. Great flavor but a bit dry–in a pleasing way if that makes sense.

Then this big, breaded deep-fried potato ball with a yummy filling. Guevara’s hits the nail on the head–and then goes after the next nail. And that one other there…

And it was back to my couch for some relaxing. But here’s some more scenes from this Brooklyn excursion. Winning the train lottery! Not a soul in the car…

6th Covid test. I decided I only want to go to Fort Greene for my test–they have the best nasal swabbers.

I like this rose’s “I bloom when I damn well please” vibe. Dedicated to the late bloomers.

And bam, it’s November. w.t.heck?!
