Park Slope’s Earthen
Upscale Mostly Vegan

So pleased to discover a wonderful mostly vegan eatery in Park Slope, an area of Brooklyn kind of void of really good vegan food. I ran to Earthen after work on Thursday as a special treat for surviving a long week after a glorious break. I was going to treat myself right. I started with the cheese plate…

The cheeses were brought in from outside vegan cheese-makers… a chΓ¨vre w/ cran & dill, a truffle billy (my favorite) and a smoked aged cheddar along with a house-made champagne mango chutney and served with sourdough bread

In the bites.

My yuzu spritzer was refreshing, effervescent and not too sweet.

The Fried Chick’n Sandwich, which is thankfully not some packaged meat analog, but a deep-fried lion’s mane mushroom topped with butter lettuce, coleslaw, a creamy caper aioli and pickles. It crunched; it oozed with creamy almost fluffy aioli. It was delicious.

Just several shots before diving in….

Inside, tender mushroom. It didn’t pull awkwardly with each bite, like say the deep-fried Hen of the Woods does. It’s moist and succulent–which makes the contrasting crunch even more amazing.

Looking forward to getting back there soon to sample more of their lovely menu.
