On the Border of Vermont & New Hampshire
July 12, 2021
One thing to take note of when driving on the backroads of Vermont while using Google Maps GPS… they don’t really care if they put you on a steep dirt road winding into the mountains like the long driveway of some geezer living off the grid barely. That is how I arrived into the New Hampshire border–with white knuckles and smack into a thick morning mountain fog. It was beautiful.
The previous activities of the morning were total busts–I wanted to head up to the abandoned US Air Force Base (see here) but it was gated off. Curses! Then I headed to the abandoned Nansen Ski Jump (see here), but upon arrival saw that it had been demolished, with construction vehicles still parked at the site. More curses! Luckily the early morning had some beautiful views to redeem the disappointments. Featured prominently is that morning fog…
The mountains I’d be within for the next day
Love a town with pieces of the past still intact
Also, this was a lovely roadside attraction, the Vermontasaurus. Constructed with scrap wood, there are several dinosaurs hanging out in a field used to launch hot air balloons. I originally thought I may try to shoot the area at night, but there was some sort of camp I didn’t want to be around.
That darn sun blowing things out
Onward, New England!
