I know there’s a Full Moon every night
It’s just not always bright πŸŒ’

Another edition of Moon inspiration for the archive.

I was excited to do a moon shoot tonight to capture the full Snow Moon, but it may be cloudy… So! Some practice for an impending Phase Two endeavor… vintage photoshoots. Today I would be incorporating a few things I’ll need practice: photoshop, vintage hair styling, and working with the beloved Paper Moon backdrop–or at least an image of it.

Paper Moon photobooths used to pop up at festivals and events between 1900-1930, when the era’s cumbersome photographic equipment was not in everybody’s hands. They’ve recently gained popularity as a whimsical addition to vintage-themed weddings. But the romantic moon is for the self-partnered too! πŸŒ™

Some vintage Paper Moon inspo for my shoot:

I hope she doesn’t mind, but I used an image of a real Paper Moon backdrop created by Kristin Loffer Theiss, a wonderful artist living in Washington. She made the moon from cardboard, which I’m going to try soon–as soon as I find a huge mass of cardboard that I am not utilizing as the dressing room walls for my Mermaid shop–more on that craft soon. Here is the shoot!

This was of course an image from A Trip to the Moon

This is a ridiculous filter effect from an app I downloaded when I saw it had turned my friend into a banana. Someone ought to get on making a moon version!

Some shots from trying to do my hair in Victory Rolls. As a lover of vintage pin-up, the Victory Roll has been an on and off mission of mine. Now that my hair is long again, I thought I’d try again.

Not a bad start!

This is a Bumper Bang attempt. There’s a whole subculture of vintage enthusiasts who master the hairstyles from decades long ago.

In the end I just used heat curlers to give me some waves. This was my first costume choice.

What’s up, filter face? I don’t think my skin ever looked like this. Even when I was like 16.

Till next time, Moon…
