Busy Brooklyn (and Queens)

With a friend in town, it is busy times in Brooklyn and Queens, starting with a mermaid shoot at Jacob Riis in the Rockaways. Of course we had to jump in the water with record-high heat!

Brekkie at Le Petit Monstre.. despite everything looking so good, it’s so unfortunate everything has to be packed into to-go containers even when dining in. Besides it being tremendously wasteful, the pricey pastry deserves a better presentation. Eateries have embraced big changes because of the health pandemic, but let’s evolve now. Surface contamination is not a source of transmission. Get the plates back out and take pride in your food… especially if you are going to post it presented beautifully on social media.

Again, the pastry is great but we really need to stop the McDonalds-like treatment of food and customers.

On my friend’s list, finding her great great grandfather’s headstone at Cedar Grove Cemetery. While there, a couple of angels in my favorite postures. These were similar to some Green-Wood greats, but with less attention to detail. Here, the Angel of Grief.

And another Monteverde Angel, my absolute favorite posture but far less impactful than Maben in Green-Wood. It’s fascinating how the form can be so similar but it can hold none of the magic. Like people, some contain magic and wonder and allure–and others… not quite.

Perhaps it’s in the eyes?

Doofy eyes
