Burrito Break!
Pia Vegan Food & Wine

Making a stop in the chaotic Chelsea Market on the weekend is not really what any New Yorker wants to do. The place is a tourist Mecca, far off from what it was when I worked across the street 20 years ago. But I had to go to Pia Vegan Food & Wine. “All-vegan” lights a fire under my butt. “All-vegan Mexican,” even more so.

The burrito I sought is called Burrito Ahogado. It is Mexican rice, black beans, house chickpea chorizo, queso fresco, lettuce, pico de gallo, and guacamole in a flour tortilla ribboned beautifully with salsa guajillo and cashew crema. That splash of red and white is what I was most thrilled about. So let’s see it!

I ate the entire thing and savored every second of it. It was delicious… everything you want from a burrito. It might be the best burrito in Manhattan? I’ll get back to you on that…
