Another Round of Staten Island Vegan Eats

Back over the bridge for some more vegan eats! Firstly, breakfast at Northside Coffee in West Brighton. I’ve reported on this space before, but when it wasΒ Fab Cup. (You may remember my complaining about their Golden Milk latte and their lack of good vegan options here.) Now, renovated and with a new name and owner, they’ve got a killer B.E.C. that might be the best on the Borough.

Toasted sourdough had great texture… didn’t scratch up the roof of my mouth. Tempeh bacon, Just Egg and not sure what kinda vegan cheese. It was oozy-delicious. That’s a deliciousness that runneth over. Outstanding oatmilk latte kicked arse too. What an improvement from the old space!

My dress about to get soiled.

After this fuel from Northside Coffee it was onward, Staten Island!

I’ve stopped by Donut World once before for their vegan donuts, but that was a while ago. I was excited to see that they were dropping “P.B.” for all to see.

So the scoop is that they have a vegan vanilla donut base. They sometimes run out as demand in the area is inconsistent. Then you can choose toppings marked with a green “X” below. [I guess I’ll note that both Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Fruity Pebbles are fortified with an animal-based vitamin (Vitamin D3) that vegans mindful of personal purity don’t eat.]

Back to the car. I love Donut World‘s branding, so.. more pictures.

My selection: Chocolate icing with marshmallow drizzle, original glazed, glazed with blueberry drizzle, and powdered sugar.

In the car I had to have one right away. The texture is just like the donuts I ate as a kid–Entenmanns. So nostalgic!

I’ve been meaning to hit In Fine Fettle for awhile now as they had a vegan pizza before a lot of other places started making vegan options. Finally stopping in to their Jewett Avenue location, I ordered the vegan plain pizza, requested light vegan cheese and the addition of mushrooms. It’s on a cauliflower cruse, which I never had before but became all the rage not too long ago because of anti-carbers.

Though the cheese wasn’t too light, it hit the spot. The thin cauliflower crust is crispy and flavorful.

It’s so easy being vegan cheesy…

I also hit on that same trip to Staten Island in January of 2020, I was back at Empanada Kingdom to see how their vegan offerings have evolved.

Their empanadas are now more stuffed, include vegan cheese and are packed with flavor. I was impressed, though I have now had my fill of processed vegan cheese for the next few months.

The Bello-Up: Portobello, tofu, peppers, vegan cheese & white onions

Sweet Plantain with vegan mozzarella cheese was really delicious… a great combination of sweet and salty

My partner in Staten Island eating is Ang–stick a fork in us we’re done!
