All the Best Vegan Food in Cleveland, Ohio

Of course I ate all the best vegan eats in the Cleveland area. So here they are, chronologically.

Breakfast at the Cleveland Vegan: this large inviting space with friendly service was first on my list.

I went for their Breakfast Sandwich–house omelet, tempeh bacon, kale, tomato, chipotle mayo, and sprouts on an everything bagel. No house English muffin unfortunately. You know how bagels can push everything out of the way, making sides ooze. Though that gets even more so when they’re toasted, an untoasted bagel isn’t the most appetizing vehicle for veggie stuff. In short, bagels are great for smears, but veggie sandwich fare better with more airy breads.

Oh my goodness, I just went on a long rant about bagels! Bagel aside, this is a great sandwich.

Had I not had plans immediately after to get croissants, I’d partake in some of the amazing looking treats in the showcase. Next time, Cleveland Vegan.

I was super excited to drive a bit south to Parma for a pop-up from Metro Croissants. Metro croissants are all-vegan. And they are the real deal, as my pictures will illustrate.

Of course I had to select the Pain au chocolat

How beautiful is this? And I haven’t even taken a bite yet.

This is real deal, like I said.

A customer favorite, The Morning Bun, a sweet hybrid of a croissant and a cinnamon bun, sappy and sticky with cinnamon, pecans and orange essence.

Moving onward a mid-day bite and a latte on my way to the cemetery. Beviamo is an all-vegan coffee shop with a small menu of bites.

A delicious pastry-like Cleveland Bagel, a local bagel company that are “Cleveland style,” meaning “smaller, full of flavor, chewy, with a crisp exterior.” Perfect in my book.

I got it with the Go Veggie Coconut Plain Cream Cheese.

A dreamy macadamia nut milk latte

A new day means more breakfast! I hit up the Water Garden Cafe amidst some street construction. Service was a bit curt but got the job done without any hassles.

The Vegan Chicken & Waffles which, I suppose, should be Vegan Chicken & Waffle, singular. The waffles was really good. But they never hold their heat for very long! And three pieces of battered and deep-fried cauliflower. Alongside some local syrup, vegan butter and a blueberry sauce.

I enjoyed this breakfast a great deal, but it needed something more… another waffle, more cauliflower, a small helping of massaged kale?

That want of more vegetables carried over into lunch when I decided to hit Foodhisattva, an all-vegan Asian fusion cafe who makes it all from scratch. Extremely personable service show a passion for connecting with patrons in a refreshing and authentic way.

My Sensai Salad, which I devoured. Mixed greens with carrots, cucumbers, green onions, roasted broccoli, pan-fried tofu and toasted sesame seeds, served bathed in carrot-ginger dressing.

A fan of the turnip in Asian preparations, I got the Turnip Cake, pan-fried turnip patty with shiitake mushrooms.

And this day was my birthday! So I got a beautiful Beet Latte at Daily Press in my favorite section of Cleveland.

A K-cup for Karen 😊

A Classic Avocado Toast–topped with chia and cilantro

Yes, please do.

The birthday girl gets to have her sweetness. I was nearby a Cinnaholic after the sunflowers, so it would be a huge and decadent cinnamon bun. But what kind? Look at all these options.

Ok, I went for one of my favorite flavor combos–S’mores. It really is all I have been craving since I decided I’d make my own cake for the celebration with my parents. So this is s’mores part one. Marshmallow cream, chocolate drizzle, graham, marshmallows… oh my!

I guess just a few more pictures before I devour it…

And dinner! I was happy to catch one of Townhall‘s Vegan Mondays in Ohio City. And sorry Cleveland, I kind of like Ohio City better than you.

How pretty is this dinner: The Cauliflower T-Bone Steak–Tinga Marinated Cauliflower Steak, Off Cobb Street Corn and a Watermelon Wedge with a Chimichuri drizzle. And a local beer.

Amused by my taking pictures of my food, this guy asked me to take a picture of him. So..

And lastly, one more breakfast. This one at Baba Yaga’s Greenhouse Cafe. This is the No Eggs Benedict. But really unseasoned unprepared tofu inside an upside down bagel? 90’s style as in things have involved a great deal since this might have satisfied me. I might sugarcoat my constructive feedback had the vibe been a bit less awkward in there. Awkward as in negative vibes while krishna music plays awkward. Awkward as in my thanking them on the way out and the counter girl blurting out “Did you pay?!” awkward.

That’s it Cleveland! Stick a fork in me.
