A.T.M. Vegan Deli

Though vegan food is popping up everywhere, I am most excited about high quality (emphasis added) vegan food popping up. Please don’t cite recent additions of fast food restaurants offering vegan options as progress. A.T.M. Vegan Deli, a counter at the event space Kinfolk 90 in Williamsburg, is all-vegan and mostly all wonderful!

Though we gotta lose that Beyond off the menu. Because, frankly, it tastes like how cat food smells. And, less graphically, because the spread of highly processed packaged items on an eatery’s menu is a bit of a bummer for me. But my standards are admittedly and proudly high. This bun was heavenly. Heav-en-ly (said slowly). And all together it felt almost scaringly like a “real” egg & cheese from a New York deli–textures, tastes and smells.

This is what I really want to talk about. This cookie was the most amazing cookie I’ve ever had. This may sound like some meaningless superlative… but it is not. Chocolate chip cookies are a huge deal for me. In fact when I went vegan over 20 years ago I made batch after batch of vegan chocolate cookies as I was unable to live without them. They were really the only thing from my old diet I couldn’t deal without. As veganism became embraced more broadly I hunted cookies everywhere–drove literal hours for them. I can go on, but I won’t. This cookie was perfection in every way. Now that I have had one, I don’t know how I am going to not trek to Williamburg on the reg to sink in my teeth through ’em often.

Also a turmeric latte. Because I have to if they have em.

Now go try that cookie! And get me one too. xov.v.
