✈️ TWA Hotel, My New Happy Place

The TWA Hotel, the midcentury modern marvel at JFK airport, is an amazing place to pass away a day. Especially when it is raining all day. Especially with a fish eye lens on a new camera. The sublime attention to detail is downright transportive. From every angle, I wanted to capture it all. And I think I might have!

There is a mini-museum in the space and artifacts everywhere. Not much strays from the era.

Private little nooks to wander into in the lounge areas.

Break from fish eye–check out this color scheme.

The swoops, so many swoops

A Twister room. What a great place for a date. File that for when you have a date.

I can’t believe this amazing structure had been sitting so long.

Sensing my passion for the place, an employee let me in one of the conference rooms.

The flight board is an exact replica of the original, made from the same manufacturer. But it is for decorative purposes only. These old airline logos are just another time-appropriate detail.

Did I tell you that I love this place yet?

Every detail. I can’t stop taking pictures.

The fun doesn’t stop outside. Feel free to roam outside. The plane that sits outside is… a bar. You can go up the stairs, peek into the cockpit of the plane with all the controls and buttons, and then roam about underneath it… in the rain. I had my hopes set on ice skating on the Runway Rink, which is a seasonal activity out on the tarmac.

Classic cars are parked in the parking lot and within the space.

There’s a restaurant too. But vegan options are minimal. This is the Warm Three Grain salad with mushrooms, roasted delicata squash and a lemon dressing. Tasty but not a great value.

Of course there’s some other fun stuff going on there… like a photobooth…

… and fun places for silly pictures

Can’t wait to come back to photograph the exterior in the light of day… to ice skate.. the try the pool and the poolside bar… and to wear one of my vintage dresses inside… and have a cocktail… and to apply for a part time job and… take a bunch more pictures.
