x * 2 + 1

This is the numerical expression I use to decide on how many dim sum plates to order when x represents the quantity of diners.ย  This is how I know that the dim sum dishes at Dim Sum Bar in Williamsburg, Brooklyn are smaller than traditional dim sum plates, like in Chinatown in Queens or Manhattan, and more expensive.ย ย This is kind of a bummer as I had hoped to find a place to satisfy my occasional dim sum cravings without smelling the nasty fish markets along Canal street or driving/parking in the hectic Flushing, Queens area.ย  But it would do for now.ย  Here are our five plates (2 * 2 + 1 = 5)

Vegetarian Dim Sum Bar Platter (above): Spinach Dumplings, Red Cabbage Dumplings, Mushroom Dumplings

Grilled Eggplant… usually stuffed with shrimp.ย  Same price for stuffed with nothing?ย

Steamed Vegetarian Bao (2 pieces for $4, what a rip-off!)

Vegetable Lo Mai Gai: Sticky rice, mushrooms and bean curd

These are the most common of my dim sum cravings.ย  I think I’ve been spoiled by Vegetarian Dim Sum House.ย  Now, to get my butt to Chinatown as one piece is just not good enough.
