Welcoming the Year of the Ox
February 1, 2009
It was a mild and beautiful Sunday for the Lunar New Year Parade & Festival in Chinatown. What a glorious afternoon! The confetti storms against the crisp blue sky were beautifully surreal and color, dance and cheer party-popped through the streets to frighten the evil spirits that may impede on a fruitful year. Although I could barely fight through the crowd to view the official parade, dragon dances were abound through the tiny streets off Mott spreading good luck.
Red is worn to scare away evil and ill luck.
The bright confetti falls upon snow patches along the sidewalk.
Color is everywhere.
The gorgeous Chinese New Year dragons dance on Pell street.
Of course we had to hit Vegetarian Dim Sum House while on Pell street. Below is their sesame “chicken”. Amazing texture! Fried tofu intercepted by a slither of seaweed. The best of its “mock” kind, by far.
Sweet bean paste buns. Not shown is my roasted pork buns which I devoured too quickly.
