Abandoned Castle
Castillo Torre Salvana
August 23, 2022
El Castillo Torre Salvana has stood in Santa Coloma de Cervelló, Spain for over 1,000 years. That’s one thousand. It was once occupied by the Cervelló family who once ruled the area. But during the Catalan Civil War of 1224, the castle was besieged and the inhabitants were brutally executed. And so, as with many historic acts of brutality, lore of spiritual activity grew. Fittingly, some refer to it as ‘Torre del Diablo’ or ’Torre del Infierno.’ Some say it is the most haunted site in all of Catalunya. When I climbed through its rooms I did not experience anything frightening, save for the catching site of a mattress and clothing all about. For me, the fear of running into someone alive is greater than the fear of encountering a spirit. I got many great shots in a short period but overgrowth about the site made it difficult to access some parts. I was disappointed to learn only now that the town also had a church designed by Catalunya architect superstar Gaudí.
This is me just excited about successfully navigating Spain. Of course, Google Maps deserves the credit. It told me what to do the whole time.
