Vegan Stuff at North 3rd Street Market

Williamsburg has a new little food court in the thick of the area’s hullabaloo, North 3rd Street Market, and it has some good vegan options! Manhattan’s delicious all-vegan Mexican Jajaja has a Brooklyn outpost there. Since it was Tuesday, I had to make it a Taco Tuesday.

Everything is so pretty at Jajaja.

I got an order of the Palm Carnitas: heart of palm (barely discernible or even visible), jackfruit (too discernible and too acidic), orange (not discernible), salsa verde on a blueberry & flax seed tortilla. It was good, but–as noted–flavor points were undetectable making it way too much jackfruit and a disappointing value. Where was the palm in the Palm Carnitas?!

I devoured the Mexican Street Corn (grilled corn, almond queso, and a sprinkle of cayenne). So very good.

I was really excited to try the oat milk soft serve at Whipped Urban Dessert Lab, a new all-vegan venture of Boston’s not-exclusively-vegan sweetmakers. They just opened this week!

They have great toppings and sauces that are all-vegan, as mentioned above. I am mentioning it again because I want more vegan toppings and sauces out there at all places that offer vegan ice cream. I have longed for a decadent ice cream parlor with a broad variety of vegan toppings… not just basics. Maybe I’ll have to just have to do it myself! Meanwhile the strawberry crumb cookie was sooooo good. The sauce nice, but needs more of a strawberry punch.

The real star here is the amazing oat milk soft serve. I had never tried oat milk ice cream but, gosh–it was so perfect. Not icy, very creamy, beautiful soft aeration, no weird aftertaste. But a bit expensive given the size of the cup.

Look how beautiful. I will be definitely keeping my eye on their expansion.
