Vegan Indian Fusion on Long Island: Wild Side Organic Bistro

Vegan eats are popping up all over the place!  I get real excited about checking out new options on my home place of Long Island.  Today, lunch at Wild Side Organic Bistro in Oakdale where they are serving up really delicious Indian fusion.  “Indian” as in all my favorite flavors–heat and spices–and “fusion” as in familiar, comforting dishes. These are their Wood Fire Roasted Cauliflower Balls packed with turmeric, tomatoes, chili, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil atop penne and marinara with some serious garlic kick.  Sooooo good.

We also had their Chickpea battered Spicy Potato Sliders without the bun so they were vegan. They were like a revamped knish packed with some heat (green chili), mustard seeds, and turmeric on top of two scrumptious sauces: Tamarind/Date and Cilantro/Mint Chutney. They were amazing.  So satisfying to have food packed with flavor!

This is the potato you’ve been waiting for.

I couldn’t resist one of the two vegan dessert options: forbidden rice in sweetened coconut milk with some dice strawberries.  Yes, like my favorite mango and sticky rice… a perfect end.  Very well done, Wild Side Bistro! You are raising Long Island vegan game.  They also have a vegan ravioli and several vegan-option wood fire pizzas on the menu.  Oh well, I’ll have to come back!
