Imma be honest. The state of veggie burgers has devolved since “Big Veggie Burger” (Beyond and Impossible) became the easy option of so many eateries incorporating vegan options. Sure, it is great that so many eateries are wanting to embrace all eaters, including vegans who have long been ridiculed, but I don’t celebrate fowl-tasting processed manufactured “meat” product no matter how many restaurants lazily commit it to their menus. I know just how amazing food from plants can be. And Beyond and Impossible just don’t cut it for me.

That is why this veggie burger from Beets & Carrots in Bay Ridge is a V.V. Vegan Best of the Boroughs. It may be the best veggie burger in New York City? It’s everything a veggie burger should be–made of vegetables, seasoned well, compressed into a patty, garnished perfectly and served with French fries. Let’s look…

Welcome to my series that highlights the very best vegan foods in New York City’s boroughs. While vegan options are popping up all over, this series focuses on the non-dairy cream of the crop, options that raise the bar for vegan food and deserve special recognition for their high standards.

Bun selection is very important. This bun was hearty but soft.

Love each bite… I can’t put my finger on the veggies inside. Peep that red pepper aioli: such a great addition.

Excuse me now as things get messy.

I’m thinking: Considering how ubiquitous lower quality veggie burgers are, it might be time for another Vegan Victuals NYC Burger Showdown! Beets & Carrots would go far. I will have to do some research and get back to you.
