Veg-Heavy in Greenpoint, Brooklyn (& No A**holes)

Along the perimeter of McCarren Park in Greenpoint, is a hot new veg-heavy eatery and “farm brewery,”ย Annicka. It sources veggies and brews locally… and they also claim they have a “no a**holes” policy!ย  I met a friend to bask in the sun of their outdoor seating, ready for some delicious vegan options. But first, a cocktail:ย Shirley’s Temple with Albany Vodka, fresh citrus, and black currant. We inquired which of their veg-heavy dishes were vegan… and most of them were.

The Fried Mushrooms were divine: breaded and fried trumpet mushrooms in a pool of smoky coconut milk, raw chunks of kohlrabi and assorted fresh herbs. Fresh, flavorful, and, though fried, clean and bright.ย

The Spring Vegetables & White Bean soup was downright perfect. I must admit I wasn’t too excited about a soup but… the lemon herb broth, snap peas, asparagus & soft macadamia ricotta was so vibrant and delicious.

The Charred Sweet Potato with black tahini, furikake & lacinto kale was my least favorite dish. I’d love to see more protein-packed vegan entrees, because a tremendous potato didn’t cut it for me nutritionally.ย

But all it delicious that ends deliciously. Their housemade cardamom nut-based ice cream sundae was so good.ย  The cardamom was a bit too intense, but with a bite of their coconut caramel, sweet strawberries, and candied walnuts, perfect.ย  Yes, I said “perfect” a lot in this post.ย  And it’s true.ย  I look forward to returning and checking out new seasonal additions.ย

As far as “no a**holes,” almost! The service was great. But there were two a**hole kids whose mothers were dining there; the kids spend the whole time destructively playing in the plants and excitedly killing pregnant bugs and screaming in delight about it.ย ย ๐Ÿ˜’
