Under the Milky Way… Again
August 24, 2019

Just one look, as the song goes. A glance up at the sky in the secluded Curry Hammock State Park in Marathon, Florida and I knew it’d be another fruitful night shoot. Above me, the most clear, dark skies to my memory. When I saw the Milky Way again, the same joy as in Periwinkle Park but also confusion. How could this be? In between some of the many shots I took at my campsite at Curry Hammock, I basked in the wonder (while doing sun salutations, a perfectly timed activity during a 30-second exposure): why was I so fortunate in so many ways?

Then I stopped trying to deconstruct. Over-analysis can be a bad habit. Do me a favor, just look at the pictures here. Nothing I can say could match these.

These two shots are my favorites. This is the neighboring campsite’s RV. I wanted to show them the picture in the morning, but we left before they woke.

The clouds attacking the Milky Way. I wait for clouds to move. It is what makes night shoots last for hours. Which makes me get lots of mosquito bites.

If you were looking closely you should have seen 3 shooting stars in my pictures. What will you wish for?

I wish I have as much success with seeing the Northern Lights as I have with the Milky Way. Onward…
