Truth & Tonic
Las Vegas, Nevada

It was time to head to the desert again, for the third summer in a row. There is just so much to see in this region–and I like to catch up with my friend in Los Angeles annually. For financial reasons, flying in and out of Vegas is always the best bet. I don’t mind driving at all, for starters, and Las Vegas has tons of vegan options I am still working through. Having Vegas be the jumping off and jumping back point allows me to take care of some vegan business without being too immersed in that whole Vegas thing.

But before the red eye from JFK, Farmer’s Fridge. This vending machine is the best vegan option in the airport. This is their Pineapple Coconut Chia Pudding. I look forward to this healthy snack before a flight.

The glorious sunset we flew into:

Because it was about 11:30 pm after I picked up my rental car, I stayed in a motel room nearby that was unbelievably cheap… $26 cheap! And it was totally fine. (It was the Days Inn Wild Wild West Gambling Hall if you’re interested booked via Hotels.com.) The following morning, I had one eatery on my agenda: Truth & Tonic.

Truth & Tonic is the only all-vegan eatery on the Vegas strip. ย It is nestled away in the spa of The Venetian. ย Currently self-park is free at the towering resort or I’d otherwise spend a small fortune as it took me a very long time to find its location. But it wasn’t just my lack of spatial reasoning. There were the neon distractions about and, in general, the sensory over-stimulation. Then there was a Concierge who told me that it wasn’t open (!), which didn’t make much sense as I had a reservation. I arrived eager and hungry.

Hungry enough to order two breakfasts? Yes, especially since I would be inside remote nature for the remainder of the day and evening!

My oat milk latte, served with a chocolate-dipped biscotti. A nice touch.

My two breakfasts:

Tofu scramble served with breakfast potatoes, and housemade toast along with some greens.

Organic Strawberry & Cashew Butter Toast is soft bread wedges topped with cashew butter, strawberries, grilled banana, maple syrup and candied cashews

It was just what I needed: high quality, flavor-driven, whole food plant based. (i.e. no packaged processed food on the plate.) A thing of beauty…

The scramble was also delicious but could have used some veggies in the scramble. I like spinach and roasted cherry tomato myself. But an all-around pleaser, as it usually is.

I took as many pictures as I did bites. This is the perfect start to a day of roughing it.

Time to head out into the wild…

…after a stop in Venice. The Vegas version of Venice.

Here I go, again, on my own!
