The Milky Way in Vermont

In the back of my mind during a recent road trip was the fact that it was time for the New Moon. Since shooting the Milky Way is often less fruitful in the East, I didn’t make any plans around astrophotography. But as the sky darkened and that familiar cluster of star haze became visible to me, I spent the entire evening trying to capture it, eventually sleeping in my car after many hours of shooting. In the end, a bright and impressive Milky Way stayed with me the entire evening. The biggest challenge was finding places where it was not obscured.

Shooting stars were also plentiful

Despite all of the components in this composition, I really love this shot. That is a cemetery to the left, some red barns ahead, powerlines, trees, a car heading my way in the distance

Another old cemetery

Someone’s barn that I mistook for a covered bridge in the darkness

I went to three covered bridges but all had photographers already amidst shooting. It was nice to see, but I wanted to be alone. It was difficult to find a place in the dark since I was fearful of stumbling into the water the bridge stretched across.

The trees drinking up the Milk

Well worth a night of sleeping in my car… Thanks, Vermont.
