The Long Island Diner with the Vegan Menu
Lindenhurst Diner 🌱

Sitting in a diner and drinking coffee, this was youth on Long Island. With some choice table juke box selections, my favorite being Nirvana’s take on The Man Who Sold the World—inexplicably between jams twice its age as if placed just for this Pillar Box Red headed misfit in suburban exile—the Diner was a sacred part of growing up Long Island. The conversations, the inside smoking, the hours of respite for the price of a cup off coffee, the public nuisance. Ah, memories.

My food order back the was minimal. A roll with lettuce, tomato and mustard, much to the confusion of the waitress. And French fries. If you told me then that one day I’d be eating vegan scrambled eggs from an all-vegan menu in one of those mirror-clad diners I would never believe it. And yet, here I am. Joyful that the world adjusted to my 19-year-old ideals.

The lovingly laminated vegan menu even tells the story of what I wondered. Why the vegan menu? I want to know their “whys” as I have my own for so long. There is this satisfaction I get from hearing it from others. And it’s always about wanting to make as many people as possible happy.

The menu has sweet and savory nostalgic diner dishes. And breakfast all day! A huge draw for any diner. I ordered the scrambled eggs and homefries. Just Egg is really getting around these days. I have been seeing it at omni eateries here and there.

Notice the “vegan” spike! I’ve seen these before. As vegan options are sprouting up everywhere, especially in omni eateries, I am thankful of the the declarative spike.

Before I start eating, a ton of pictures. This is a moment that so pleases my inner child.

So pleasing a breakfast. I’m floored by this diner’s embrace of progress. Now I’ve gotta get back and try some more dishes. Viva LIVegan!!
