The International Car Forest… at Night

Though Tonopah, Nevada is not dark sky certified by the IDA, it was rated as the #1 stargazing destination in the United States by USA Today at one point.Β  And it has an official stargazing park, The Clair Blackburn Memorial Stargazing Park that has concrete picnic tables set for you to eat up the sky. Unfortunately there were construction vehicles aiming their massive white headlights onto the park, blowing out the night sky. So we headed back to Goldmine to shoot at the The International Car Forest of the Last Church, a place I’d be rather spooked to shoot on my own. The cars loomed surreally in the dark and casted unexpected shadows. Then there were the wild burros making wild groans in the silent air. With my assistant light painter my usual solitary activity was much more relaxed and fun. Here are the results…
