The Days at Hither Hills
Montauk, Long Island

When a camping spot in the coveted J-section at Hither Hills State Park opened up, I booked it for two nights knowing there wouldn’t be a better way to spend the evening on my visit back to the metro area of New York. And it would be a perfect location for my friend to celebrate her birthday. We were blessed with absolutely perfect weather, as the pictures would show. Here are some photographic highlights of this extraordinary excursion.

Though the water was not freezing, the waves were rough because of an off-shore Hurricane.

Relax! You’re two tents. LOL

Beer from Montauk Brewery and vegan pizza from Blade + Salt would make for a satisfying dinner.

Birthday cupcakes I picked from Papa Ganache in Matawan, New Jersey. They hung in there.

The morning and I’m the only one up. Morning person here!

Walk to the shore to see the light show

Dorking it up

Here she comes

The tents did real well. It is always so beautiful to hear the waves crashing while in the tent.

Breakfast at Naturally Good Foods & Cafe. I like Montauk off-season way better. Normally this spot would be inundated, but now it is tolerable.

We went halfsies. Their tofu scramble burrito is pretty yummy.

Now at Montauk Point State Park.

The rocks are now neatly stacked against the shore. I was regretting not bringing a mermaid top.

How perfect would that be?

Rocky shores

We hiked a little at Camp Hero State Park. I would return later to explore on my own.

Some pretty seashells I shelled.

Checked out Left Hand Coffee. Really great coffee.

They had vegan croissants!

Now I was getting big rocks to set under my fire pale on for the evening and my friend is on her way back west on the Island.

I got Chinese from Street Food. It was pretty standard Chinese food (yummy) but with Montauk prices.

Veggie dumplings and veggie lo mein.

Starting my fire. It was a goal of mind to start it on my own, but two–that’s right–two men came over to help. They just can’t hep themselves! It’s primal.

Though I enjoyed the fire, building it would sacrifice my night shoot success. But as I will post soon, the first evening brought some great Milky Way.

My last morning and then it would be a long drive back to Rochester!

Thank you for so much beauty, Montauk!
