The Cranberries [& Pumpkins & Apples & Brunch & Donuts]
October 6, 2018
Autumn is my favorite time of the year! Though we are not very far in, today was a celebration of all the best parts of its edible goodness. Starting at Stone Bridge Farms in Acushnet, Massachusetts. Visiting a cranberry bog is a kind of new addition to my bucket list, but with autumn here and a reservation made in April, I would quickly scratch a line through it.
The cranberries were not all deep red at this time of the season, but a beautiful mosaic of whites, pinks, and rosy reds.
The water harvest. Here you can see the cranberry-filled branches in the water alongside the harvest.

What a beautiful feeling to walk through this…
Taking care of business.
Working up an appetite for a donut… at Providence, RI’s PV Donuts. We tried to stop here before the bog but the line was too long.
Some yummy vegan options
Our donuts on the way to brunch.
Brunch in Providence. The Grange‘s brunch game is spot-on. We split a sweet and savory dish. Here, the chicken-fried seitan with spicy maple syrup, maple Earth Balance, and pecans. Absolutely perfect. Yes, I have no criticism.
The Tofu Benedict, which, as a rule, I have to order if it’s on the menu. Also. Perfect. . . w.t.f.?! A delicious and tall tofu top, housemade seitan sausage, and Hollandaise on a huosemade black pepper biscuit. Seasoned well, great texture, no packages. My goodness, why doesn’t New York take a tip from Providence?

This neat flower that looked like tooled leather
I’m a happy gal in a pumpkin patch. There is something so pleasing to see a pumpkin still on the vine… and not like in a big grocer’s bin.
Fruit and the flower
How I love thee, Autumn.
And we needed apples, too. Since we were celebrating autumn. We stopped in Lyman Orchards in Middlefield, Connecticut.
I love a field of sunflowers, dead or alive. They look so sad with their heads all down.
Thank you, Autumn and New England, for the invigorating color and beauty.
