Terms of Endearment, Brooklyn

A reoccurring topic of conversation at family get-togethers is the state of film today. How the young have swiftly diminishing means of experiencing depth and quality, the depth and quality that marked our upbringing, the endless pool of movie references we speak like a language. I bring this up because Terms of Endearment is a movie from the 80’s I remember so vividly. As a little girl, I remember crying a lot from it–a big fat lump in my throat. And the things you cry about when you’re a kid teach you some lasting lessons. So I enjoy the nostalgic nod that Terms of Endearment, the new vegan eatery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, makes to the film… in my mind at least. But maybe it’s about sweetie pie, baby, hunny bun, darling? Those are nice too.

Beyond the name, Terms of Endearment is a pretty spectacular addition to the vegan scene in Brooklyn. Their menu is full of sophisticated sweet and savory offerings like a Charcuterie board, a Prosciutto Pear sandwich, and Lox on a croissant. Most is made in-house as it better be at their price points, though they do utilize Just Egg and packaged cheeses.

As you can guess from the housemade pastries above, the draw is their pastry, mos def. And most of their popular menu items revolve around that pastry. To follow is our eats, though admittedly we wanted to try everything and it was difficult to make a selection.

I chose the beet lox on croissant with cream cheese, capers and some bright veg. It was very good.

I could have used more beet lox.

My friend’s Bacon, Egg & Cheese. Not sure about what the bacon was made with, though it doesn’t seem to be housemade. Its marbling was kinda um, bacon-y.

Our S’mores danish. So darn good. Though I would loved it if it was more like a cream cheese danish but with a thick puddle of marshmallow fluff in its center instead of a few marshmallows.

I told you I always have to get the Golden Milk Latte. This was very good. I’m kind of obsessed with this drink.

Very well done eats at Terms of Endearment, my new vegan breakfast sweetheart sugar lips babycakes.
