Summer’s End: The Feast of San Gennaro 🇮🇹

Gosh, I haven’t gone to the Feast of San Gennaro in over 10 years (see the related posts below), but it’s exactly the same. Though the world has gotten much more vegan friendly, this feast–an authentic Italian feast–has not… really. Sure, plenty of Little Italy’s restaurants can give you a plate of penne with broccoli in garlic and oil… or spaghetti in marinara… But I never went to a real Italian restaurant where it didn’t rain cheese in the kitchen. Plus fresh-made pasta often is egg-laden. Soo, now–unless I read “vegan”, it’s not worth the communication needed to ensure “no cheese.” Mostly because it is often met with boisterous confusion–“No cheese?!?!”

But I did find the v-word within my stroll down Mulberry Street. We’ll get to that at the end. First, I wanted to capture the Feast’s timelessness, a New York City sign of summer’s end.

I want to make a big block of vegan nougat. Actually… no, I don’t.

Holy Cannoli

San Gennaro is the Patron Saint of Naples. I am 12.5% Neapolitan. That’s half of half.

Vegan!!!!!

I got a scoop of dark chocolate and a scoop of banana.

Then I went to get a substantial lunch elsewhere. Goodbye Summer.
