Seeds & Weeds
South Street Seaport, Manhattan

Seeds & Weeds is a Jean-Georges all-vegetarian eatery that sits in the Tin Building, a new culinary destination adjacent to South Street Seaport’s main attractions. With a special New York homecoming to celebrate, we splurged on brunch along with the tourists on a hot spring day. Though we enjoyed our meal, we didn’t find the meal to be a good value.

The pretty space:::

Cocktails to start. This was a herbaceous blend of fresh juice and tequila…

The Avocado Lettuce Cups were sweet potato, serrano chili, lime and toasted cumin on some lettuce. Fresh and flavorful, though way too easy. No real complicated technique here; you can easily make on your own en masse–not a property I want in a fine dining situation.

This heavenly dish we inhaled quickly: Crispy Olive Oil Artichokes. These tender and crisp ‘chokes most certainly required technique I do not have. They were served with a saffron rose aioli and some Meyer lemon.

Beautiful…

The House-cultured Hemp Seed Burger… great moisture and texture but way salty… perhaps mistakenly salty. It was served with a yuzukoshō special sauce on a deliciously airy potato bun. We enjoyed it, but since splitting all, we just needed more.

Now it was time for dessert… since we did have space for it.

A halva oat milk hot fudge sundae with a sesame brittle and topped with a slew of airy coconut whip. It was very good… as good as it sounds.

Overall, we enjoyed delicious dishes. But the value is lacking as they are very small.
