Running Away to Jersey, Part 7
Vegan Food in Ocean City, New Jersey

Ocean City, New Jersey has some vegan gems. One gem, Heart Beet Kitchen, is located just a block from the boardwalk and has easy walk-up ordering with plenty of outdoor seating. On this grey, misty day I’d take my meal in my car on my way outta town.

The crispy tofu sandwich is fantastic. And part of the forthcoming New Jersey Fried Chicken Battle I’ve decided… it’s the crunch and the fixin’s. It’s got the pickle, the slaw, the soft bun. As you know if you read my NYC Fried Chicken Battles, those things make champions.

Also–sweet and spicy.

Ok, so now I have to return for this and the Old Time Photos!

I first came to the Bashful Banana Bakery & Cafe in 2011 (post here). It took me 9 years but I knew I’d be back. The place was hopping, especially given Covid rules and social distancing.

It was breakfast time and I wanted bananas! Frozen aerated bananas! I got the strawberry banana whip with their special all-fruit chocolate sauce. I love that “vegan” is everywhere on the menu–sweet and savory.

Down to the shore to enjoy my treat. Real strawberries, real banana, real real real. Yes, thank you.

I devoured it all to the sound of crashing waves.

Also on the boardwalk–Dole Whip and Polish water ice, both vegan.

Thanks for some great eats, Ocean City. I swear to be back sooner than 9 years.
